Former president of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has revealed that he paid renowned investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas a staggering $100,000 not to air Number 12. He alleged that Anas and his team demanded $150,000.
Speaking to Captain Smart on Onua Maakye on April 2, 2024, the banned former FA president said, “I gave them $100,000, but they told me the amount was inadequate and later went ahead to release the video.”
Kwesi Nyantakyi alleged that Anas propagates himself as an anti-corruption crusader, but he is an extortionist. He uses what he does to make money for himself. According to Nyantakyi, Anas sent Adam Mukaila, Nyantakyi’s colleague at the GFA Executive Committee. Adam Mukaila then went with Nyantakyi to Kwame Gyan, a law lecturer at the University of Ghana, Legon. Per his submission, Gyan told him [Nyantakyi] that Anas is his [Gyan’s] student and is demanding $150,000 to drop the story.
Nyantakyi added that they met at the lawyer’s residence at Westland, and the lawyer assured him that Anas visited him. Nyantakyi continued that Kwame Gyan assured him that if the money is released to Anas, the Number 12 tape will not be released. The former GFA boss said it was “blackmail.”
“I paid $100,000, but as they said, it was inadequate. It wasn’t up to the requested amount. So when they released the video, I called Alhaji Mukaila and asked him to refund my money.”
Nyantakyi said he got back the full $100,000, but it was paid in pieces. “Today, they would bring $20,000, and the next day another $10,000. They were giving me stories, but eventually I got everything back,” he told Captain Smart.
