The National Union of Ghana Students – NUGS has joined Ghana First Patriots for a nationwide protest of over the just refified Ghana-US Military agreement.
According to a statement signed by the NUGS President, Frank Amoakohene, they have “Friday 23/03/2018 issued a strong caution to Government concerning the GHANA – US military deal”
[ads1]In that release, the Union stated its position on the matter and further called on MPs to reject the agreement.
However, the majority MPs despite the nationwide call for them to reject the agreement went ahead to ratify the agreement amid minority protest and subsequent walkout.
NUGS like many other groups are of the view that the deal is not in the best interest of the nation as “the deal gives the United States inappropriate access to our security details, protects the US military beyond citizens of Ghana and the deal has no tangible purpose nor time limit.”
“Unfortunately, parliament ratified the agreement without recourse to critical concerns raised on the matter by NUGS and other stakeholders.” the statement added.
NUGS is, therefore, urging “all students and the general public are called upon to be present for the biggest mass protest at 6:00am this Wednesday, 28th March, 2018”
Bellow is the full statement:
