National service personnel of the 2024 service year, have been directed to go on terminal leave effective Saturday, August 31, instead of the usual September 30.
This terminal leave marks the end of service for personnel, who are predominantly recent graduates from various tertiary institutions across the country.
In a letter dated July 29, 2024 and signed by the Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Gifty Oware-Mensah, the scheme explained why the service year is ending a month earlier, saying it is undergoing review.
“The National Service Scheme is currently undergoing review to improve efficiency in the quest to become an Authority. In light of these, the Board and Management wish to inform all that their service period will officially come to an end on the 31st August 2024 and September will be their terminal leave,” part of the letter read.
The scheme however directed that anyone who is still interested in volunteering with the scheme can re-apply in order to continue their voluntary service to the state.
“Volunteers including those in all our offices and projects sites who are still interested in volunteering with the Scheme may re-apply to the Executive Director, National Service Scheme through their Regional Directors for consideration.
“Management would like to wish all National Service Persons and volunteers well in their future endeavors,” the scheme added.
