NPP’s #ItsHimNotHer Campaign confirms Prof. Jane Naana is best choice – Michael Abbey

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2020 Manifesto Team, Michael Nii Abby has said the #ItsHimNotHer social media campaign of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is a confirmation that the choice of Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as NDC’s Vice Presidential candidate is one of the best things to have happened in Ghana’s recent political history.

In a Facebook post sighted by Awake News, Mr. Abbey said “the campaign also reveals the anti-progressive thinking and short-sightedness that characterizes it.”

According to him, “What the campaigners fail to appreciate is that today, Adjoa Ataa’s daughter, Yaa Mansa, can sit in class and just dream of becoming a Vice President in Ghana because it is presently playing out in her own eyes. We simply cannot discount how our – including our children’s – dreams are influenced and shaped by what we see, what we hear and what we feel.”

“Again, what the campaigners fail to recognize is that today, Kwasivi Adzorlolo’s grand-niece, Aku Abodakpui, can see clearly through the veil, and highly convinced, that, with Ghana ready to have a female Vice President, it is just a step closer – and, of course, made possible now – to have a female President in a matter of time (and mind you, this is not the UGCC’s understanding of TIME o). This means a lot to all progressives and the many socio-politically excluded and marginalized groups in Ghana.” – Mr. Abbey added

“Sociologists and Psychologists contend that we are, to a large extent, products of the environment we live in. Our environment plays a major role in defining our mindset and dreams. It’s a whole new political environment we are building for our dreams. A new dawn!” – he emphasized

If readers can recall, before the nomination of Prof. Jane Naana as the NDC’s running mate for John Mahama into the December 2020 elections, the running NPP officials and communicators have been lashing out at the former President for being undecisive a reason he could not announce his running mate about five months into the elections.

Their criticisms and backlashes were shuttered when the former President names the former Education Minister as his running mate – a decision most Ghanaians applauded but he did not escape the NPP’s axes but jumped to the other side to pour unpleasant words on Ghana’s first female Vice-Chancellor.

Unsuccessful with the personal attacks on Prof. Jane Naana, the NPP communicators launched a social media campaign #ItsHimNotHer.

This Mr. Abby describes as a confirmation that the choice is the best.

Aside from the fact that the #ItsHimNotHer campaign is rather a confirmation that the choice of Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang is one of the best things to have happened in Ghana’s recent political history, the campaign also reveals the anti-progressive thinking and short-sightedness that characterises it.

What the campaigners fail to appreciate is that today, Adjoa Ataa’s daughter, Yaa Mansa, can sit in class and just dream of becoming a Vice President in Ghana because it is presently playing out in her own eyes. We simply cannot discount how our – including our children’s – dreams are influenced and shaped by what we see, what we hear and what we feel. Sociologists and Psychologists contend that we are, to a large extent, products of the environment we live in. Our environment plays a major role in defining our mindset and dreams. It’s a whole new political environment we are building for our dreams. A new dawn!

Again, what the campaigners fail to recognize is that today, Kwasivi Adzorlolo’s grand-niece, Aku Abodakpui, can see clearly through the veil, and highly convinced, that, with Ghana ready to have a female Vice President, it is just a step closer – and, of course, made possible now – to having a female President in a matter of time (and mind you, this is not the UGCC’s understanding of TIME o). This means a lot to all progressives and the many socio-politically excluded and marginalized groups in Ghana.

What they again fail to acknowledge is that, the far-reaching effect of this singular progressive decision by H. E. John Mahama transcends merely partnering a ticket for an election. It is a redefinition and endorsement of inclusive democracy and the introduction of a refreshing and renewed path in Ghana’s polity anchored on social justice. See, aside from the general socio-political reframing and restructuring this selection brings to our politics, it will, without doubt, also, change political messaging, communication and discourse in this town.

If for nothing at all, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang’s outdooring speech gave us a hint of the very refreshingly nuanced and people-centered political messaging and discourse we will be enjoying soon. Effectively, she echoed the fact that it’s the confluence of all these socio-politico-economic issues that make up the economy and not the pouring of raw economic figures without any significant connection to the lived and living experiences of the people.

Clearly, this choice is a masterstroke – for today’s and tomorrow’s generation!

Shalom.
