Associate Professor of Political Science and Director of the Centre for European Studies of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ransford Gyampo, has issued a sharp rebuke to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing the party of displaying dangerous arrogance both during and after their defeat in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking in reaction to the NPP’s ongoing “Thank You Tour,” Prof. Gyampo questioned the party’s approach, arguing that it disregards the very public dissatisfaction that led to their electoral loss.

“When we complained openly, they arrogantly responded that regardless of their mayhem on us, they would still break the eight, as if we are all very dumb and stupid,” he said.

He further criticized the NPP’s insistence on the now-failed “Break the 8” agenda, describing it as a reflection of the party’s detachment from voter concerns.

“When we rubbished their insistence to break the eight, they responded by saying ‘it is possible.’ The height of NPP arrogance,” he added.

According to Gyampo, multiple post-election surveys suggest that the NPP’s current support base has shrunk significantly, with recent polls showing they command less than 25% of voter approval nationwide.

The academic urged the NPP to set aside internal leadership conflicts and focus instead on realigning with the needs of Ghanaians through humility and reform.

“This is not the time for leadership struggles in the party that has nearly collapsed and risks annihilation. They must listen, learn, and rebuild,” he warned.
