National Chairman of the People’s National Congress (PNC) says he has information that the government is training thugs to cause mayhem in the country during the 2020 general elections.

Bernard Mornah said he has intercepted a letter by the Techiman Police Commander requesting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to submit the names of persons his command will be training for next year’s elections.

“This letter is in circulation and neither the police nor the party in government has come to deny the contents of the letter,” the PNC Chairman said on an Accra-based radio station on Friday, February 8, 2019, in an interview on his views on Thursday’s February 7, 2019, demonstration.

In view of the information he had gathered, coupled with ‘shameful’ responses from the Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu and Minister of State in-charge of National Security, Bryan Acheampong, on the violence at the Wuogon by-election, Mr Mornah said, were enough evidence that the country was not in safe hands.

It is in the light of this that the Inter-Party Coalition for National Sovereignty poured on the streets to protest to the President to sack Kan Dapaah, Minister for National Security, the IGP and Minister of State in-charge of National Security for their recklessness and irresponsible conducts in the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

Mr Mornah expressed disgust at submissions by the NPP General Secretary, John Boadu, that government would never bow to the demands by the demonstrators.

Mr. Boadu made the submission in a radio interview that Kan Dapaah, Asante-Apeatu and Bryan Acheampong would never be fired by the government as demanded by the Inter-Party Coalition for National Sovereignty, whose convener is Bernard Mornah.

John Boadu’s comment, Mr. Mornah said, rubbishes the work of the commission set up by Vice President Bawumiah, in consultation with President Akufo-Addo, to investigate the violence at the Wuogon by-election.

“The work of the Emile Short Commission has already been compromised by John Boadu’s comments, so why should I have confidence in it? What is more? The membership is pro-government,” Bernard Mornarh expressed.

He concluded that President Akufo-Addo would, after the Commission had presented its report to him, clear his appointees of any wrong deeds, “and this is the Ghana we live in now.”
