Member of Parliament for Old Tafo in the Ashanti Region, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the 2024 general elections because it chose to be honest with Ghanaians.
His comments follow recent remarks by the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, who acknowledged on an international platform that external shocks such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war severely affected Ghana’s economy.
Taking to social media, Assafuah expressed disappointment that despite the party’s efforts to communicate the truth, many voters were swayed by what he described as propaganda from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“We were vilified, insulted, called all sorts of names, and voted against not because we failed, but because we chose to be honest with the ordinary Ghanaian,” he posted.
He added, “These were the words of the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, spoken boldly on an international platform. God alone remains faithful.”
Assafuah’s post has sparked fresh debate about whether the NPP’s messaging and communication strategy played a significant role in its electoral defeat.
