Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, a founding member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has raised serious concerns about the party’s direction under former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
Speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues, he warned that the NPP has been “destroyed” and urged senior members to act swiftly to restore the party’s integrity.
“I’m always praying that we still have senior people around, they should find a way to get the party back to the state that it was. At the moment, the party has been destroyed,” he stated, citing the poor results of recent elections as a clear indication of decline.
Dr. Tamakloe criticized Akufo-Addo’s leadership, accusing him of ignoring party voices and prioritizing personal and family interests.
“It’s not a question of factionalism, it’s a question of leadership,” he explained, emphasizing that the party’s problems stem from leadership failure rather than internal divisions.
He expressed disappointment over the former president’s approach.
He said, “I personally have really been shocked by the leadership of Akufo-Addo. He came in and he never listened to anybody.”
This disregard for diverse input, according to Dr. Tamakloe, contributed significantly to the party’s challenges.
He also questioned the economic decisions made under Akufo-Addo’s administration, arguing that capable figures like Kwame Pianim were sidelined in favor of family members.
“We have people like Kwame Pianim; if we come to the economy, you have nothing to worry about,” he said.
Dr. Tamakloe described the administration as operating like a “family affair,” a situation he believes undermined both the party and the country’s economic prospects.
