The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sagnarigu constituency, A.B.A. Fuseini has alleged that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo nominated the Executive Director of Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Mrs Jean Adukwei Mensa as the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission to steal the verdict of the 2020 elections.
[ads1]According to him, the NPP is in an attempt to pack the Electoral Commission with its apparatchiks to rig the elections to favour Nana Addo.
“We have no doubt in our minds that the NPP is in an attempt to pack the Electoral Commission in order to steal the verdict of 2020 because they are so hopelessly uninspiring and many Ghanaians are ready to boot them out,” he said.
Nana Addo in accordance with Article 70 (2) of the 1992 Constitution nominated Jean Adukwei Mensa as the EC boss.
He has also appointed two persons to fill the vacancy created by the two dismissed deputy commissioners.
The two deputies appointed are Samuel Tettey and Eric Asare Bossman.
But the Minority Spokesperson on Communications, A.B.A. Fuseini, accused the government of making moves to influence the polls in their favour.
Prior to the 2016 elections, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has branded the IEA as an appendage of the NPP.
They accused the IEA’s inability to restore its damaged relationship with the NPP and accused the governance of the think-tank bias.
A.B.A Fuseini speaking on the appointments of the EC bosses said the NDC “had problems with the IEA (Institute of Economic Affairs) at some point in time and had to boycott the IEA under her patronage, so, we have issues with this, regarding the credentials of Ms Mensa.
“Even Bossman, they have made statements to the effect that they are sympathetic to the NPP and there is no doubt about that.”
