Ex-Ghana international Sam Johnson says football in the country should be devoid of politics since it is the only game that unites the whole nation.
He was speaking on UTV’s sports program ‘Agodie’, where he was asked about certain comments made by deputy sports minister Pius Enam Hadzide pertaining to the Black Stars World Cup qualifiers.
Pius Enam Hadzide had been reported to have blamed the NDC government for the woes of the Black Stars in their first two World Cup qualifiers against Uganda and Egypt.
“If the politicians are doing their things we should allow them, but we the football loving fans should ensure that we don’t entertain politics in our football especially our national teams. If we join this political train in football, we will not survive”.
“Football unites the whole nation and if we start to involve politics into it will be very suicidal.
Concerning the Black Stars World Cup qualifier against Congo in Kumasi, in which the Stars blew the opportunity to be get back in the race to qualify for Russia 2018, he said, it is over for the Black Stars in the world cup qualifier.
“Uganda gifted us the opportunity to come back into the race when they beat Egypt at home but we also failed to win at home.
“We should give some players the chance to play the rest of the matches so they will also get the experience
“It will take a miracle for us to qualify now. We should think of building our team for the next tournament”, he added.
