Solomon Boar, Minister designate for North-East has hinted of plans by government to attract investors into the region to explore its natural resources that have been left unattended to for decades.
Solomon Boar disclosed that the government plans to take advantage of the lime-rich area of Nalerigu to establish a cement factory in the area.
The Minister-designate announced that discussions have begun to attract investors into the area with the Municipal Assembly working assiduously to make this see the light of day within the shortest possible time.
He added that the area is rich in several other natural resources including oil culminating in exploration activities by Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
“In both the Nalerigu Municipality and Bunkpurugu-Nuakpanduri district, it is estimated that we have over 20million tones of limestone in each of the districts” he said before the Committee.
“There are plans underway to set up the cement factory in Gbadam in Nalerigu Municipality. That is one of the things that we are really working assiduously to ensure that it happens. I’m sure if this happens very soon the whole nation will hear about the potential that exits in the area.”
“We are working with the major stakeholders in this country. The Ministry f Trade is very much aware of what I am talking about,” he noted in responses to the Committee.
These were announced when the Minister-designate appeared before the Parliament Appointment’s Committee to be vetted for the position of North East Regional Minister.
Solomon Boar is one of 12 Minister’s designate nominated by the President to take charge of the 6 newly created regions in the country.
North East and Savanna Regions were carved out of the Northern Region.
The creation of the new regions ends years of petitions submitted by stakeholders of the newly created regions to be made independent regions to accelerate their development.
