The Electoral Commission says there is no time for the physical re-exhibition of the corrected Provisional Voter’s Register (PVR) across the country in over 40,000 centers.
In a reply to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) petition demanding for a forensic audit and a re-exhibition of the voters register, the Electoral Commission indicated that the three to four weeks needed for printing and distribution makes the re-exhibition impossible given the short time left to December 7, 2024.
“The Commission intends to implement an online exhibition of the PVR at no cost to registered voters. Voters will be able to report anomalies in their details within a time frame that will be made available to the public. The voter’s register will be displayed online until Election Day” the EC said.
The EC assured the NDC and the general public that just as it successfully executed the 2020 elections without error it will deliver same in the 2024 elections.
“As a Commission, we are of the view that the existing legal and administrative processes for cleaning the PVR have not been fully exhausted to justify the call for a forensic audit. We entreat the NDC and the general public to trust us to deliver our mandate.”
However one would be left wondering, why the EC intends to do an online exhibition with the register if they so believe it is clean and robust?
Another would also wondering how some Ghanaians who are not well versed in information Technology will access the platform and confirm their details coupled with poor network service in most parts of the country?
