The National Labour Commission (NLC) has ruled in favor of the National Identification Authority (NIA) and its former Executive Secretary, Professor Ken Attafuah, affirming the legality of the dismissal of a former employee, Martin Akowuah.
Akowuah, who previously worked at the NIA’s Madina district office in Accra, got his appointment terminated in 2023 for unauthorized alterations to official working hours.
He later filed a complaint with the NLC, alleging unfair treatment. However, the Commission determined that his dismissal was in accordance with established public service regulations and the NIA’s standard operating procedures.
Following the ruling, Professor Attafuah defended his leadership and dismissed claims of unfair treatment, emphasizing his commitment to fairness, integrity, and ethical governance.
He also highlighted broader challenges in institutional leadership in Ghana, citing misinformation, propaganda, and political interference as significant obstacles to enforcing discipline. Despite these challenges, he expressed confidence in the ruling, stating that “truth has prevailed.”
