Nkwanta Community Senior High Technical School has been the first ever Community Day Senior High School in the history of Ghana to participate in the National Science and Maths Quiz Competition.
The school, in less than three years since it was commissioned, competed with great schools including St. Paul’s SHS of Denu, [ads1]Sonrise of Ho and Krachi Senior High Technical School of Kete Krach.
These schools which the young Community Day School battled in the competition and placed fourth position have been in existence for more than 40 years.
The first batch of the school will sit for the WASSCE exams by next month of this year. Over the years, the Community School have always been winning all competitions ranging from academic, music, sports and culture within the Nkwanta South Municipal and Nkwanta North district.
The headmaster of the school, Mr. S H. K. Avevor who is more than hardworking, is poised to make sure his first batch excel very well in the forthcoming WASSCE Examination. The school last year held its first ever speech and prize giving day to motivate hardworking and deserving staff and students. This exercise went a long way to motivate both staff and students to put in more efforts in teaching and learning.
Nkwanta Community Day Senior High Technical School is one of the 200 community days schools former president Mahama promised to build. It was commissioned by the former president John Mahama on Wednesday, 18th of November, 2015.
The school is a mixed school and has a student population of 1,218. The school runs programs including General Science, Agricultural Science, Home Economics, General Arts, Business, Visual Arts and Technical Education. The school for now is a day school and it is situated in the Nkwanta South Municipality. The school has a very hardworking qualified staff for both teaching and non-teaching. The school is hoping in the near future open the boarding system to accommodate students from afar.
CHALLENGES
The fast-growing school with a student population of 1,218 needs additional classrooms since the already existing ones are inadequate to contain the population. The school in the interim is in dire need of Pavilions to be used as a classroom. There are also no Technical/Vocational/General Art Workshop, no Science Lab even though the school is a science school. Again as a matter of urgency, the school needs a separate administration block to facilitate administration processes in the school. In fact, there are no toilet facilities for the students. You will see Students walking into the bush to ease themselves and we all know the implications. The school is making an appeal to well-meaning Ghanaians, NGOs and Philanthropists to come to their aid.
