Former chairman of the National Film Authority’s (NFA) Classification Committee, Socrate Safo, has revealed that his team classified over 300 films during his tenure.
Speaking on Daybreak Hitz, he emphasized efforts made to educate filmmakers on the importance of film classification.
Safo commended the current Executive Secretary, Kafui Danku-Pitcher, for continuing the initiative and reinforcing the law under the Development and Classification of Film Act, 2016 (Act 935).
A recent NFA release reminds stakeholders that effective May 1, 2025, only licensed producers, distributors, and exhibitors will be allowed to submit content for classification.
The law mandates that all audio-visual content intended for public exhibition including films, series, documentaries, music videos, trailers, and adverts must be classified by the NFA.
The new enforcement aims to uphold standards and promote growth in Ghana’s evolving film industry.
