The Volta Region has been identified as one of three regions where a military hospital will be built under a new John Mahama administration, according to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in its 2024 manifesto.

The party has designated Ho as the specific location for this project. The other regions mentioned in the manifesto are Western North, with the hospital at Sefwi Wiawso, and Upper East, at Bolgatanga.

This plan is outlined under the “Ghana Armed Forces” section of the manifesto, where the NDC details its intentions for the military.

“[New NDC government] will initiate the construction of military hospitals at Ho, Bolgatanga, and Sefwi Wiawso,” the party indicated on page 55 of its manifesto.

Ghana currently has only one functional military hospital—the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. The other, Afari Military Hospital, which began construction under the previous Mahama administration, has yet to be completed and operationalized. However, the manifesto also earmarks this hospital for completion and operationalization.

According to the NDC’s manifesto, the addition of three new military hospitals will help alleviate pressure on existing facilities in the areas where the new hospitals will be built.
