Snippets of information available to Awake News are that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Tema has put in a proposal to the government to impress on the Electoral Commission (EC) to split Tema West constituency.
The proposed name for the new political constituency Tema South and should it be approved, Tema shall have four constituencies namely Tema East, Central, West and South.
Since 1992, the Harbour City has been a political waterloo to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), and should the new Tema South constituency be birthed, Carlos Ahenkorah, the incumbent Tema West Member of Parliament (MP), would be transferred to contest the seat.
The move by the ruling government to woo the EC to kowtow to the demand for the creation of the new Tema South constituency is to further make the NDC barren in Tema, where the Umbrella party is yet to beat the NPP for a parliamentary seat.
Dennis Amfo Boakye Sefah, the current Tema West NPP Constituency chairman, would have the opportunity to test his muscles with Irene Naa Torshie Addo, who Awake News has gathered, has laced her boot for a comeback as the Tema West MP, when the party opens nominations.
Irene Naa Torshie Addo was handed a heavy defeat by Carlos Ahenkorah in the last Tema West NPP primaries, and as her strong position is to contest the man who whipped her in the primaries might not come to pass, should the new Tema constituency be created, she would have to re–strategise to take the ‘fight’ to Dennis Amfo Boakye Sefah, who is a ‘darling boy’ of her bitterest constituency NPP rival, Carlos Ahenkorah.
