The Electoral Commission of Ghana has said it will deploy registration officials to the various Senior High School across the country from tomorrow, Friday, June 10-11, 2020 to register the final year students in the ongoing new voters’ registration exercise.
The EC made this known at the just ended emergency IPAC meeting in Accra.
This announcement is coming in at the wake of growing concerns as some Senior High Schools have started recording COVID-19 positive cases.
Last week, it was announced that six students, a teacher, and spouse in the Accra Girls’ Senior High School have tested positive for coronavirus, a joint statement by the Ghana Education Service and Ghana Health Service has confirmed.
Already, some prominent Ghanaians are even calling for the President of Ghana to reconsider the decision to reopen the school for Final year SHS students and second-year Gold Track students as the COVID-19 number keeps growing.
Three days ago, it was reported that a student at the KNUST Senior High School was complaining of stomach problems but was left by the teachers and the school management an attended to for the fear of COVID-19 and resulting in the death of the student.
As of today, the total confirmed cases stood at 22,822 and with 854 cases recorded today alone.
Last week, it was announced that the President and the Chief Justice of Ghana are both under 14 days self-isolation
