Malik Basintale, the National Deputy Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been honored with a chieftaincy title in the Upper West Region, his place of origin.
The young politician has been bestowed with the title “Yel-Naa,” which translates to “Chief of Communication” in English, by the Paramount Chief of the Waala Traditional Area, His Royal Majesty Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV.
The conferral took place in a brief ceremony at the Wa-Naa’s palace on Tuesday, August 13.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Basintale addressed a plea made by the Wa-Naa concerning a recent misunderstanding between him [Basintale] and the Member of Parliament for the Sissala East Constituency, Amidu Chinnia Issahaku. He said, “I will plead with the Wa-Naa to simply turn a blind eye to a slave and his master’s little play.“
He further promised to “temper justice with mercy,” assuring the traditional ruler that he would not present the alleged documents he claimed could cause significant damage to the Sissala East lawmaker.
Mr. Basintale recently alleged on national television that Hon. Issahaku was involved in corrupt practices. This accusation came after the MP had accused former President and NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama of corruption.
