President John Dramami Mahama administration has unveiled an ambitious plan to tackle youth unemployment and stimulate economic growth through the Adwumawura initiative, a comprehensive program designed to support the creation of at least 10,000 youth-led businesses annually.

According to Julian Mawuse Cobbinah, Chairman of the NDC Youth Manifesto Committee, this initiative has the potential to transform the lives of thousands of young Ghanaians, adding its implementation will see it from the perceptive of utmost fairness and transparency.

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom, Cobbinah elaborated on the far-reaching impact of the Adwumawura initiative, stating that, “The John Mahama Government believes that it can help create 10,000 new businesses every year, that are created by young people. If these businesses are providing 10 each employed young persons, and we are doing it for the next four years, that is 40,000 times 10, and that is for only direct jobs, and that is very massive.”

This audacious plan aims to empower young entrepreneurs and inject vitality into the economy.

To ensure the success and credibility of the program, Cobbinah emphasized the need for a merit-based system, where support is allocated based on deserving qualifications rather than partisan affiliations.

“The people who will get the support must merit it. In the past, we have wrecked our support system for businesses, and it has become like a partisan cradle… I think we must stop that. What the government wants to do is to have a credible regime and process in the awarding of the support to these businesses,” he asserted.

The program, targeting young people aged 18 to 35, is poised to be a cornerstone of the NDC’s job creation and youth empowerment agenda.
