The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled a short code that Ghanaians can use to check their names in the Electoral Commission’s (EC) voters’ register for free.
The EC began its nationwide voters’ register exhibition exercise on August 20, aimed at getting voters to confirm their details in their respective electoral areas.
While the manual verification process is free, the EC charges 50 Ghana pesewas for verification via short code.
This has drawn condemnation from the opposition NDC, which believes that no one should be charged a pesewa to check their presence in the register.
In response, the NDC has announced a free short code, *928*124#, to prevent Ghanaians from paying for the verification.
According to the party, there will be no charge for using the short code. Meanwhile, the exhibition exercise is scheduled to end on Tuesday, August 27.
