Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) underestimated his political strength in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
According to him, the NDC believed they could easily unseat him by fielding a more prominent and media-savvy candidate.
Speaking to GHOne TV, the New Patriotic Party MP said the NDC’s selection of entertainment entrepreneur Baba Sadiq as their candidate was a deliberate attempt to overshadow his record and appeal.
Mr. Boamah, however, maintained that his longstanding relationship with constituents and his performance as MP played a key role in securing his victory.
The Okaikwei Central parliamentary contest was one of the most anticipated races in the Greater Accra Region. Baba Sadiq, founder of the 3Music Awards, brought visibility and energy to the campaign with a strong presence on social media and a focus on engaging younger voters. His entry created a major buzz and was seen as the NDC’s boldest attempt yet to take the seat.
Despite the strong challenge, Mr. Boamah, who has held the seat since 2012, emerged victorious with a comfortable lead. His campaign emphasized continuity, local development,t and accessibility to the community, which he says were more important to voters than popularity or image.
His win secured a fourth term in Parliament and further solidified the NPP’s dominance in the constituency even as the NDC continues to make gains in several urban areas.
