A defeated candidate in the just-ended National Democratic Congress flagbearership contest, Professor Joshua Alabi has tasked the winner of the contest and executives of the party to show leadership in the run-up to the 2020 elections.

Prof Alabi indicated that for the NDC to be successful in their quest to regain power from the governing New Patriotic Party, they have to be united and work as a team.

This he believed was the hallmark of good leadership and challenged the current crop of leaders including the leader of the party, John Mahama to work to bring all factions and parties on board the campaign for 2020.

Addressing a press conference at his residence on Wednesday after the flagbearership race, Professor Joshua Alabi stressed, “My Party the NDC has spoken and we have selected our leader and Presidential Candidate, we now require leadership to achieve our goals and leadership requires everybody’s involvement. This is why we need all hands on deck. I am confident that with unity our Party, the NDC will win the 2020 elections. I wish to use this opportunity to call on all the other aspirants to contribute towards NDC Agenda Win 2020”.

“As a Congress, the NDC is made up of people of different shades of opinion and propositions. During our internal contest for the primaries, such differences in opinions and propositions would have played. The contest for a leader is over; it is now time for Leadership. I encourage all of us to put our differences behind us and refrain from acts of omissions or commissions that can divide us now that the contest has ended. It is now time to face the NPP and win back power to provide the solutions that the people of Ghana so much need and it requires unity”

The defeated aspirant reiterated his commitment to assist in whatever capacity the party deems fit to regain power and urged his supporters to do same in the best interest of the NDC.

“As I have already stated in my concession statement, I have urged and appealed to my support base to work harder for the victory of the NDC in 2020, and I trust all other aspirants have done same,” he added.

The former SSNIT Board Chairman sounded the ‘war drums’ ahead of the 2020 contest to the governing NPP cautioning them to be on the alert as “The NDC is coming like kakaii”.

Professor Alabi took the opportunity to appreciate the efforts of all stakeholders who supported his campaign in diverse ways but conceded despite their genuine intents to lead the party, the wishes of the delegates must be respected.

He admitted that the movement across the country afforded him the opportunity to appreciate the living conditions of Ghanaians better but insisted that the solutions to such state of people haven’t been harnessed to their benefit.

Pointing out notable personalities in his team, Joshua Albi said, “I wish to take this opportunity to thank my Campaign Team, Team Alabi for standing with me. Your commitment and contributions were unparalleled. My special thanks goes to senior comrades, His Excellency Ambassador Victor Gbeho and Rt. Hon. Kenneth Dzirazah for availing your wealth of knowledge and experience for the Team and for touring the entire country with the Team. Your presence, strategic and tactical advice were sources of inspiration and guidance to the Team. “

John Mahama emerged victorious in a landslide victory on Saturday after close to 300, 000 delegates of the party gave him a resounding 95% of votes cast.

This means that the former President will lead the NDC into the 2020 polls to seek re-election after a humiliating defeat in 2016 where he lead the NDC to lose by almost a million votes.
