The Director of Elections and Information Technology (IT) of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Omane Boamah, has instructed NDC party agents to not comply with the new directive issued by the Electoral Commission which seeks to bar agents from monitoring the exercise.

The EC, in a memo to its regional directors on Sunday, June 2, instructed that no agents of any political party should be allowed to observe the transfer of vote exercise, citing recent violent clashes at some district offices as a result of the exercise.

“The Commission’s attention has been drawn to the violent clashes occurring at some of the District Offices as a result of the Transfer of Votes Exercise.

“Regional Directors are to inform District Officers not to allow Agents of Political Parties to observe the Transfer of Votes Exercise with effect from tomorrow, Monday. the 3rd of June.
2024,” the EC stated in the memo sent to all 16 Regional Directors.

However, for the NDC’s Director of Elections, this directive gives an indication that the Jean Mensa-led EC has no interest in conducting a free, fair and transparent elections on December 7.

“The EC by this directive to stop Agents of political parties from observing the ongoing voter Transfer exercise has once again proven to the NDC that they’re not interested in free, fair, and transparent elections.

“As a result, we are directing our agents and regional and constituency executives to disregard this partisan order from the Deputy Chairman Operations of the Electoral Commission.

“As agreed at the IPAC meeting (held last week on Wednesday 29th May, 2024 in the presence of Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensah, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana), NDC agents must appear at the EC offices tomorrow to safeguard the sanctity of the upcoming elections and the peace of our dear country,” Dr. Boamah wrote in a Facebook post sighted by Awakenewsroom.
