A renowned Chattered Economist and a member of the NDC has admonished the leadership of the party to devise a well-thought-out strategy to counteract the designed agenda of the NPP to fustrate potential voters in the NDC’s strongholds to win the 2024 elections.
According to him, the potential man-made floods that took place in the party’s strongholds are a deliberate attempt to rig the 2024 general elections.
Mr. Takyi alleged that the Akosombo Dam spillage to allow excess water from the Akosombo and Kpong dams by the Volta River Authority (VRA) in the Eastern Region is a long-term calculated rigging strategy by the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) to disenfranchise potential voters in the lower basin of the Volta River.
Mr. Takyi claims this spillage seeks to deny a lot of eligible voters the right to vote in the NDC’s strongholds in the run-up to the December 7, 2024, polls.
He further stressed that the spilling of excess water from the dams, which opened the flood gate in the Volta Region, is utterly intentional to create dissatisfaction among voters in the NDC’s strongholds.
He detailed that the areas targeted by this alleged agenda include Volta, Bono East, and parts of the Eastern Regions.
”As part of this plan,” he suggested, “excess water would be intentionally released from the dams, leading to significant flooding in these areas, possibly necessitating a declaration of a state of emergency to prevent voters in these regions from exercising their franchise.”
Mr. Takyi backed his claims by drawing inferences from the comment by Mr. Sammy Awuku, the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), who reportedly revealed that the economy might be in shambles but that the 2024 elections would be won through strategy, which the NDC will never understand.
He advised that the NDC ought to be adequately prepared with a strategy to find pragmatic measures to stop this predicament from occurring again in 2024 and to deflate the NPP’s alleged plan to break the eight-year jinx at all costs.
Speaking on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ghana Yensom morning show, hosted by Odehyeeba Kofi Essuman on Friday, October 27, 2023, Mr. Takyi reiterated that the 2024 general elections would revolve around the governing NPP’s perceived economic mismanagement, education, grand scheme corruption, healthcare, roads, and employment.
He added that the NPP has woefully failed in all aspects of the economy, and their alleged awareness of their failure to win the 2024 polls through conventional means has propelled them to scheme this flooding strategy to create unnecessary anxiety in the NDC’s stronghold.
