The Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has cleared the air on the alleged fight between the NDC and the media.
Speaking at the “Respect My Vote Movement” public forum at Teachers Hall in Accra on December 15, he said, “our friends in the media, a lot of you are doing your work firmly, nicely, so you need to be careful of this thing where they want to make it look like the NDC is fighting the whole media, is not true, we are not fighting the whole media. In fact even the stations that I mentioned TV3, Metro, we are not even fighting them, but the point is that in the same way as citizens, we have responsibility, the media also have responsibility, so when you do a reportage and you come and give us strange wield number and we ask you where is your source ? Have we committed any crime ?, he quizzed.
He stressed, “if indeed your source is the Electoral Commission, now the Electoral Commission has changed its figures four, five, six times, so which is which, so if you brought out wrong figures, you own us an apology. So we are talking about specific programs like Paul Adom’s program, like that specific TV3 program those are the ones we are raising questions about”.
He noted that some journalists are inimical to the truth, hence spreading false News about NDC’s dissenting view on the platforms that propagated wrong electoral figures of the just-ended 2020 Elections. Adding that “because some of them know they don’t want to deal with the truth so they will deliberately make it look like we are against all the media, is not true we are not against all the media, we are not against TV3, we are not against Metro, we are against the specific program where the falsehood were propagated, that is what we are against and we have every right to do that”.
Mr. Afriyie Ankrah renowned that “if citizens must be accountable the media too must be accountable, so let nobody say that we are against the media, we are against specific issue, we too we are human beings, we have blood in us and media you are not angels, when you do wrong we have every right, the same way that every day you are following us, questioning us, criticizing us, the same way when you also do wrong we as citizens must question you because you are there to serve the interest of the citizens not any parochial interest”.
