The opposition National Democratic Congress is demanding a refund of the filing fees paid by their 2020 presidential candidate, John Daramani Mahama, and some of their parliamentary candidates who lost in the election.
In a letter addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensa, signed by General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia indicated the decision was taken by the Functional Executive Committee (FEC).
In the letter, the NDC cited regulations 46 (1) and 46 (3) of C.I. 127 spell out the condition for refund. A presidential or parliamentary candidate must obtain a minimum of 25% and 12.5% respectively in a General Election to qualify for a refund.
They directed the EC to pay the money into the NDC’s account with GCB Bank.
