With the emergence of John Mahama as the NDC standard bearer in the 2020 presidential election, Ghanaians would choose between him “a nation builder” and Nana Akufo Addo whom pundits, after two years have described as clueless and disappointing.
Yesterday marked a turning point in the nation’s political history. It was John Mahama and all the news around his much anticipated victory in the NDC presidential candidate primary. John Mahama’s victory is the trending smuch-anticipatedrnet since the results were announced. His landslide victory has got everyone talking.
It is no longer news that President Akufo-Addo’s approval rating has taken a plunge in the last two years that he has been in office, which informs the belief by political pundits that a run against the President in 2020 possess no political risk.
There is no gainsaying the fact that John Mahama has been the most prepared aspirant to steer the NDC ship. There is no lying that Mahama’s leadership style as President of Ghana has become a reference point on how presidents can be efficient and effective.
The emergence of John Mahama, as the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was no happenstance. It is consistent with the resolve of members of the Party to raise the bar in public service, end the ongoing corruption, violence, unemployment and put Ghana back on the path of sustainable growth and Development.
Furthermore, post-2016 events including the massive corruption in this administration, nepotism, the scandals, the terrible state of the cedi, the high fuel prices have confirmed the common assertion that governance is not about making pretences to integrity or some shadowy fight against graft. It has little to do with age. It has more to do with competence, sensitivity and responsiveness to the plights of the governed
The choice before Ghanaians in 2020 is a simple one. Ghanaians will have a choice of electing a candidate with the record of providing potable water to Ghanaians, built hospitals, schools, hospitals, roads, revamped our collapsed factories, renovated our airports and harbours versus the incompetent President under whom banks are collapsing, businesses are folding up, the cedi is suffocating, fuel price increases every week and under whom Ghana has become the headquarters of poverty and misery in Africa.
Ghanaians have a choice of a man who will provide efficient solutions to the suffocating problems unleashed on Ghanaians by President Akufo-Addo and his family members. It is obvious that faced with such a choice, Ghanaians would definitely vote for the man who will get Ghana working again, the man who transformed Ghana within four years.
In assessing the two candidates in 2020,Ghanaians will consider their background and past. Regrettably, Akufo Addo’s scorecard is abysmally low and he has proved to be an untrustworthy and unreliable character.
The Presidency and the Npp appear jittery over their inability to nip in the bud the meteoric rise of Mahama’s sun across the county, especially as the 2020 presidential elections beckons.
The President’s propagandists and strategists tried using state apparatus to tie Mahama’s high reputation to corruption and also deplete all sources economic strength of pro NDC businesses magnates, but they failed woefully. Hence, they now resulting to hiring hatchet jobbers and agent provocateurs to cause mayhem and instigate unsolicited provocation of the NDC and other Ghanaians who are tired of President Akufo Addo and his party on the litany of their failed election promises to Ghanaians.
Former President Mahama’s 95.24 percent has sent a clear message to the ruling party and President Akufo-Addo that he has prepared adequately to take the presidency back, and has the support needed for that adventure. It was an emphatic win and has positioned the former President on a comfortable pedestal.
President Akufo,Addo’s fixation on John Mahama, to the extent of sponsoring some of the aspirants and sponsoring fabrications in the media, only goes to show that he is intimidated by John Mahama’s resume, his overwhelming popularly, past achievements and policy direction, which have since amplified President Akufo-Addo’s incompetence and lack of direction, as a result of which he is being rejected by the majority of Ghanaians.
