Former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko has backed the rambo-style arrest of two journalists of Accra-based Citi FM by operatives of National Security.
According to the lawmaker, the heavily built men who stormed the premises of Citi FM to arrest the two budding journalists, Caleb Kudah and Zoe Abu Baidoo, did no wrong.
Responding to persons who have criticized National Security for the arrest in a Facebook post, the MP explained that the conduct of the two journalists mirrored how indisciplined citizens have become.
“This is purely how indiscipline we have become as a people. All of us can help fix the system or the country by showing some level of discipline in wherever we find ourselves,” he wrote.
He questioned why the journalists filmed at the premises of National Security, a restricted zone, when there was an instruction that same should not be done.
Hon Osei Nyarko added that the country’s strength “lies in our security and intelligence installations so any unauthorized activities of strangers has the potential in putting the entire country in danger.”
He explained that in other jurisdictions, citizens were not allowed to get closer to security zones talk less of taking pictures or videos.
“You dare not walk to the premises of Pentagon, NSA, CIA or FBI and start taking pictures or videos without any clearance from the high command. These premises are all prohibited zones and no normal businesses are allowed within or certain parameters. Why should any citizen in the first place able to gather such boldness or courage to walk there and start taking videos and pictures without any security clearance or sanction,” he stated.
