Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, widely known as NAPO and former running mate to NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 elections, has firmly dismissed speculation about a potential presidential bid in 2028.
Addressing the growing public curiosity about his political future, Napo clarified that he has no intention of contesting the presidency.
He stated that his commitment remains to the party and to supporting the leadership and vision of Dr. Bawumia, not pursuing personal ambition.
This decisive declaration comes on the heels of a forthcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), where crucial party decisions are slated for discussion.
In an exclusive conversation with journalists, NAPO emphasized the importance of party unity, expressing his unwavering commitment to fostering cohesion within the NPP. This resolute stance is particularly significant given the party’s recent electoral setback.
NAPO’s commitment to unity is a strategic move to strengthen the party’s foundation, especially after the NPP suffered a defeat at the hands of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the recent general elections.
He also has expressed gratitude to Dr. Bawumia for nominating him as his running mate, highlighting the strong bond between them.
His remarks aim to put to rest ongoing rumours and reinforce his dedication to party unity and long-term national development.
