The Greater Accra Regional Hospital has yesterday celebrated its dedicated midwives who defiled all odds to respond to duty calls when everyone else was avoiding contact with suspected cases of the deadly pandemic, COVID19.

The event was held at the maternity ward, which saw many of the midwives gracing it under the theme; Together With Mums, Delivery With Joy.

Speaking at the event, the Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr Emmanuel Srofenyoh mentioned the critical nature of the services rendered by midwives and thus the need to respond to duty calls even when one is not on duty without any hesitation.

Dr Srofenyoh added that midwives at Ridge Hospital have contributed immensely toward delivery services amidst COVID19 pandemic which has earned the facility enviable appreciations from both in and outside Ghana as the centre of excellence in maternity care services.

He, however, said that as a result of the pandemic blood donation programs have gone down leading to a severe shortage of blood in its blood banks. He said in partnership with the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate, a massive blood donation exercise has been slated for Friday the 14th of May 2021. He appealed to the general public to freely walk into the facility to donate more blood to be able to save lives of expectant mothers as blood shortage is becoming a leading cause of maternal and child mortality in Ghana.
