The event was held at the maternity ward, which saw many of the midwives gracing it under the theme; Together With Mums, Delivery With Joy.

Speaking at the event, the Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr Emmanuel Srofenyoh mentioned the critical nature of the services rendered by midwives and thus the need to respond to duty calls even when one is not on duty without any hesitation.

Dr Srofenyoh added that midwives at Ridge Hospital have contributed immensely toward delivery services amidst COVID19 pandemic which has earned the facility enviable appreciations from both in and outside Ghana as the centre of excellence in maternity care services.

He, however, said that as a result of the pandemic blood donation programs have gone down leading to a severe shortage of blood in its blood banks. He said in partnership with the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate, a massive blood donation exercise has been slated for Friday the 14th of May 2021. He appealed to the general public to freely walk into the facility to donate more blood to be able to save lives of expectant mothers as blood shortage is becoming a leading cause of maternal and child mortality in Ghana.

The main blood donation exercise will take place on the premises of the hospital.

Some midwives who received the items express their gratitude and promised to continue to give quality service at all times. They urged pregnant women to seek medical attention at the earliest stage of pregnancy in order to ensure that no complications affect the pregnancy.

He said for any further information people can call the public relations officer for the Greater Accra Regional Hospital on the number via 0546632540

The event was a collaboration between the Greater Accra Regional Hospital and Green TV/FM, it was telecast live on TV, radio and online via GREEN TV GHANA.
Items donated included clothes for the midwives and hampers for new mothers who delivered on mother’s day.

According to reports from the hospital, more than thirty (30) mothers deliver at the maternity ward on daily basis.
On Sunday, May 9th, 23 mothers had been delivered from 12 midnight to midday. 17 of them were delivered by spontaneous vaginal delivery and the remaining were delivered by cesarean section.
