The Domestic Violence Management Board was established under the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732) sections 36-37. Section 38 of the Domestic Violence Act specifies that meetings of the Management Board must be held at least once every three months.

The objectives of the meeting was to:

– Identify and discuss current issues of domestic/sexual and gender-based violence in Ghana.

– Discuss issues pertaining to the Domestic Violence Victim Support Fund amongst others.

Addressing the Board members, the Sector Minister, Hon. Lariba Zuweira Abudu, indicated that violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread, persistent, and devastating human rights violations in our world today, yet, it remains largely shielded and unreported due to its impunity, silence, stigma, and shame.

She urged members to work efficiently and also engage in discussions that will be brought to the table to ensure a holistic work towards the goal of drastically reducing/ending domestic violence in Ghana by 2030.

Present at the Board Meeting was the Deputy Minister, Hon. Francisca Oteng Mensah and the Chief Director, Dr. Afisah Zakariah.
