Mobile money transactions in Ghana have seen a remarkable increase, reaching a total value of GH¢649.2 billion in the first two months of 2025, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 64.68%.
This surge comes despite the introduction of the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy), which was recently abolished by the new government. In the first two months of 2024, mobile money transactions totaled GH¢394.2 billion.
Data from the Bank of Ghana shows that January 2025 saw GH¢333 billion in transactions, although February 2025 recorded a slight decline to GH¢316.2 billion.
Industry analysts are optimistic that the growth trend will continue, especially with the E-levy removal, which could further fuel the financial technology space.
The total number of registered mobile money accounts stood at 74.1 million, up from 66.9 million in 2024. The number of registered agents reached 896,000, with 411,000 being active agents.
In 2024, mobile money transactions hit a record GH¢3.0192 trillion, marking a 57.90% increase compared to the previous year.
