Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Pius Enam Hadzide has urged all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to adopt sports programmes for their assemblies.
He also called on them to implement the Vice President’s initiative of monthly Health Walks in their various localities.
He said sports has many benefits and if the communities are engaged in it, it would help the nation to cut down medical bills and also have [ads1]active citizens to run the country.
The deputy minister made this call during the launch of the 2017 edition of the Accra Marathon
He stressed that the Ministry of Youth and Sports has endorsed the Accra Marathon and promised the organisers that his ministry would offer them their full support.
He encouraged people in Accra and Ghana at large who love fitness to join the race as the government would provide adequate security while supporting the Accra Metropolitan Authority (AMA) who are the agency collaborating with the Millennium Marathon Company Ltd for the third massive marathon in Accra.
The 2017 edition of the Accra Marathon would be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 with organisers expecting to host over 10,000 runners from across the country.
According to them, this year’s race would be held in categories namely; para-cycling, a 5km race for Ambassadors, CEOs and elite as well as the 21Km race for the masses.
Registration for the event has already begun online at www.accramarathon.com or the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) office, Frankies, Papaye and the Millennium Marathon office at Nima.
