A National Democratic Congress (NDC) affiliated youth group, Crusaders have defended the Minority in Parliament for staging a boycott during the swearing in of Lydia Seyram Alhassan as Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency.
The Minority in protest of the swearing in of Lydia Seyram Alhassan walked out of Parliament amidst hooting and jeering as the Speaker of Parliament read the summons from the Electoral Commission.
Some held up placards with “bloody widow” inscribed on them to remind Ghanaians of the violence that characterized last Thursday’s by-election through which the wife of late Emmanuel Agyarko emerged winner.
Prior to yesterday’s boycott, Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak said on the floor of the House that the NDC MPs would not take part in the ceremony.
He said, “In commiseration to support our comrades and citizens that were unnecessary hurt and brutally assaulted, I am sorry to say we cannot indulge in this. Our side of the house cannot be here to witness this swearing in.”
The Minority MPs further walked from Parliament to the CID Headquarters to seek justice for victims of the brutality including MP for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Dzata George.
Many have condemned the Minority for boycotting the swearing-in of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency and for insulting the MP as a “bloody” widow.
But the Crusaders in a statement copied to Awake News said, they strongly support the Minority and commended them for their action.
“The Minority MPs used the phase “bloody widow” to describe a particular person and not all widows. There was bloodshed at the Ayawaso West Wuogon before she was elected. The phrase “bloody widow” has been used to drum home her involvement and the direct beneficiary of that bloody election,” the group justified.
According to the group, Lydia Seyram Alhassan is “a disgrace to womanhood because of her bloody attitude to win power.”
They further reminded Ghanaians that the recent walk-out by the Minority is not the first in Ghana’s political history.
“We were in this country when Late Prof Mills went to parliament to address the parliamentarians and was shown red card and disgraced in the face of the international community yet they saw it as normal but only to see such behavior today as evil and calling for the crucification of the minority,” the Crusaders noted in the statement.
The group adds, “We were still in this country when Madam Ursula Owusu and Kennedy Agyapong used unprintable words on Madam Charlotte Osei by labelling her as “having sex with John Mahama” to grab her appointment as an EC chair. I ask a simple question, where was NPP human right advocates to fight for Madam Charlotte Osei, by condemning the comments of these law makers.”
According to the group, inasmuch as it is wrong to “equalize what was wrong yesterday to justify what has happened today”, the move by the Minority is laudable.
PRESS RELEASE BY THE CRUSADERS IN SUPPORT OF MINORITY BOYCOTTING BLOODY WIDOW SWEARING IN AT PARLIAMENT*
_____________________
Greetings from the Crusaders….
We strongly support the move of the minority in boycotting the swearing in of the Bloody widow.
The Minority MPs used the phase “bloody widow” to describe a particular person and not all widows. There was bloodshed at the Ayawaso West Wuogon before she was elected. The phrase “bloody widow” has been used to drum home her involvement and the direct beneficiary of that bloody election.
Minority has done what Napoleon couldn’t do and we as crusaders applaud them because this woman is a disgrace to womanhood because of her bloody attitude to winning power.
We want to remind all and sundry that, this was not the only walk out of parliamentarians in Ghana’s parliament per the historical anticidence.
We were in this country when Late Prof Mills went to parliament to address the parliamentarians and was shown red card and disgraced in the face of the international community yet they saw it as normal but only to see such behavior today as evil and calling for the crucification of the minority.
We were still in this country when Madam Osurla Owusu and Kennedy Agyepong used unprintable words on Madam Charlotte Osei by labelling her as “having sex with John Mahama” to grab her appointment as an EC chair. I ask a simple question, where was NPP human right advocates to fight for Madam Charllote Osei, by condemning the comments of these law makers.
We do not want to equalise what was wrong yesterday to justify what has happened today but I think the minority has done a very good job by boycotting that swearing in which they need recommendations but not castigation.
We are very happy with the hard working minority MPs for such wonderful performance. May Allah bless your efforts and hard work.
