The Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced a decision to reintroduce road and bridge tolls in Ghana for revenue mobilizations.
In a statement released today February 6, 2025, the Ministry reveals it plans to implementing a modern, technology-driven toll collection system to enhance efficiency and address current challenges. The statement also indicated that the reintroduction is necessary for the maintenance of roads.
The reintroduction comes after the erstwhile Nana Akufo-Addo government abolish toll collection in 2021, citing traffic congestion as the reason for the decision. The government then replaced toll collection with the Electronic Transfer Levy popularly known as (E-levy). Read the Ministry’s statement below,
