Minister urges businesses to pay attention to quality of goods

The Minister for Business Development, Ibrahim Awal Mohammed has urged Ghanaian entrepreneurs and manufacturers to pay attention to the quality of goods and services they provide.

He also advised them to avoid using shortcuts in their line of work but the rather focus on the quality of their products since inferior goods does not make businesses progress.

The Minister was speaking at the 2017 edition of the Made in Ghana Business Quality Awards organised by the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Ghana with support from the Ministry of Business Development, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Finance, and the Ghana Standards Authority.

He reiterated the Nana Akufo-Addo led government’s vision to make Ghana one of the most business friendly countries on the continent and hinted on some of government’s policies to make this a reality.

He said after a successful launch of the ‘One District, One Factory’ project last week, government would in the coming weeks also launch the ‘One District, One Dam’ project aimed at boosting agriculture in the country.

Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E Sun Baohong also commended the organisers for recognising the need to award industry players who ensure quality in their service delivery.

She said China has always paid attention to quality of products they produce and they have set an agenda to become the world’s manufacturing hub by the year 2025.

She called on government to provide incentives for local manufacturers since goods manufactured in Ghana can also make Ghana a better place for its citizens.

She added that it is the hope and belive of the Chinese government that the bilateral relationship between the two countries would move from aid to trade.

At the end of the event, product and business quality award went to Ghana Oil Company (GOIL), L’aine Services, Luckey Herbal Center, Melcom, Royal Crown Packaging, Central Furniture Works, Old Soldier Mosquito Coil and Graphic Communications Group Limited.

Other recipients were; Berock Ventures, Menzgold Ghana Limited, Rehoboth Properties, MGP, Kasapreo, Medi-Moses Prostate Center, SICLife Insurance, Nyonkopa Ghana, Conship and Security Warehouse Limited.

Quality leadership awards also went to; Mr Dan Kofi Okudzeto (Allied Limited), Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Kingsley (Regent University) and Dr Felix Kweku Anyah (Holy Trinity Medical Center).

Also, 10 individuals were awarded with the Regional Business Icon Awards and the recipients included; Dr Paa Kwesi Ndoum (Groupe Ndoum – Central Region), Dr Kwabena Duffour (HODA Group – Ashanti Region), Dr Kwabena Adjei (Kasapreko – Western Region), Alhaji Yusif Ibrahim (GT Bank – Northern Region) and Dr Nii Kotei Dzani (Groupe Ideal – Greater Accra Region).

The rest were; Mr Eric Seddy Kutortse (First Sky Group – Volta Region), Nana Dr Michael Agyekum-Addo (MIKADDO Holdings – Eastern Region), Dr Sampson Effah Apraku (Samora Group – Brong Ahafo Region), Prof. Edmund N. Delle (Rabito Clinic – Upper West Region) and Dr Francis Adam Asaanah (Quality Group – Upper East Region).
