NDC on PWDs

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has revealed plans to employ a minimum of five percent of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the public sector if the party comes to power in January 2025.

This commitment is outlined on page 65 of the party’s 2024 manifesto, which was launched at a colorful event on Saturday, August 24, in Winneba.

According to the NDC, the plan aims to enhance social inclusivity for PWDs, who are often underrepresented in formal employment.

“[Next NDC government will] mandate a minimum of 5 per cent hiring of persons living with disabilities in the public sector,” the party stated in its manifesto.

In November 2021, thousands of PWDs lost their jobs when the government abruptly abolished the collection of road tolls. However, the decision has been reversed after more than two years.

Additionally, the party outlined plans to establish a National Parasports Festival (NPF) exclusively for athletes within the PWD community.
