Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino has shared insights into life under manager Mikel Arteta as the Gunners prepare to face Real Madrid in a crucial Champions League quarter-final tie.
With key players like Martin Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka recently rested or recovering, Merino is expected to play a vital attacking role for the team.
Since joining from Real Sociedad, Merino has found form under Arteta, operating as a surprise centre forward. Speaking ahead of the big match, he praised Arteta’s coaching style, crediting him for helping him grow both tactically and mentally.
“Arteta is a very complete coach,” said Merino. “He’s taken a lot from Pep Guardiola, and you can see that in training. But he also brings his own unique style. We aim to dominate matches and limit our opponents’ chances.”
With Arsenal’s Champions League hopes riding on their performance against Carlo Ancelotti’s side, Merino’s leadership in attack could prove decisive.
