Group Chairman of Shipping and logistics giants, McDan Group, Mr Daniel McKorley says his aim of investing in tennis is for the country to boast of World Class tennis players who can rub shoulders with their fellows at international competitions.

To ensure this, he said plans are in place to ensure tennis in the country [ads1]assume a paradigm shift so that players and officials can work with modern trends of the sport.

Mr McKorley made this statement when he, together with is spouse and officials from the Canadian Embassy, presented cheques to the outstanding players of the McDan Junior Open Championship played a fortnight ago.

The six winners in the three age categories-U-12, 14 and U-16 (Boys and girls) received GH¢2,000 worth of scholarship each, runners-up (six) took home GH¢1,500, while the semi-finalists, numbering seven received GH¢1,000 each worth of scholarship.

The McDan boss said “we will be selecting 20 of them, pay their fees to the highest level of their education, camp them at Winneba and would be coached by Bagerbaseh.

“Later, we will fly them out to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Centre in Morocco for two years and depending on how they fare, we will take them to the States (US)”.

“We are not stopping now, we walk the talk, and since we walk the talk, we want to see results, I have confidence in the kids; give McDan two or three years and you will see the kids playing Grand Slams. It is a promise I’m giving to the nation,” he said.

He advised the young players to be serious with their training and watch their attitude towards training. He also urged them to respect their coaches and the sky would be their limit.

President of the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF), Isaac Aboagye Duah commended McDan for his unflinching support for the development and promotion of tennis in the country.

Meanwhile, the presentation ceremony saw Dr McKorley presenting $1,000 cash each to coaches Francis Mainoo (Ashaiman) and Bagerbaseh for their selfless efforts in the development of the young talents.
