The mass registration of qualified citizens from the age of 15 and above in the various municipalities within the greater Accra Region follows the pilot project by the National Identification Authority (NIA) in the Adentan Municipality in November 2018.

NIA in a statement said, the exercise would end on July 6, 2019 and move to other regions after which authority will commence the registration for Ghanaians in the diaspora.

According to NIA, “The registration exercise will also be extended to cover Ghanaians in the diaspora following the completion of the domestic registration. NIA will undertake this exercise in close collaboration with Ghanaian Missions abroad and the Office of Diaspora Relations at the Presidency.”

Head of Corporate affairs at the NIA, Francis Palmdeti in an interview with Accra-based Citi News disclosed that persons who fall below the age of 15 will be registered in 2020.

Applicants must turn up at any of the centers with their residential Ghana Post Digital Address and either of the following:

  1. Genuine birth certificate
  2. Valid Ghanaian Passport
  3. Valid certificate of acquired citizenship

Applicants are also encouraged to go to the registration centers with all official ID documents they possess such as Driver’s license, Voter ID Card, National Health Insurance Card, SSNIT Biometric Card and Tax Identification Number.

For applicants who do not have any of the mandatory documents, a registered relative or two members of the applicant’s community as determined by the Authority can vouch for their eligibility.
