The Minority in Parliament has accused the Government of paying some dubious judgment debts to the Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu, McDan and Bankswitch.

Minority spokesperson on Finance Cassiel Ato Forson said the government must give Ghanaians a breakdown of the payments made and reveal the identities of the individuals and the companies who have received the judgments debts.

His comments come after the Finance Minister revealed that the Akufo-Addo administration has paid over GhC280 million as judgment debt since it took office in 2017.

Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta said the situation is a drain on the country’s economy.

Answering questions in Parliament, Mr. Ofori-Atta disclosed the country’s judgment debt stood at over GhC 679 million out of which over 280 million has been paid.

Mr. Ofori-Atta assured government is pursuing measures aimed at reducing judgment debts.

But Mr. Ato Forson in an interview with Starr News’ Ibrahim Alhassan said some of the individuals who have received the judgment debt do not deserve the monies handed out to them by government.

“On authority we are hearing that they have paid the likes of McDan, they have paid Bankswitch, they have paid even the Special Prosecutor an amount of Judgment debt, as to whether they qualify to receive that amount, it is something we will have to investigate.

“And that is why I requested the Minister responsible for Finance to give us a breakdown…I don’t think that in the case of the Special Prosecutor…I hear he went to court, there was a default judgment and the Special Prosecutor has been paid some amount for the fact that he was wrongfully sacked as a minister of state.”
