The majority caucus has hinted they will initiate an action at the court to halt the motion of the minority seeking to recall Parliament, following the speaker’s suspension of the house indefinitely on Tuesday October, 22, 2024.
This follows the minority’s request of recall of sitting in a letter to the speaker dated October 22, 2024 after the MPs staged a walkout on Tuesday.
Member of parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, revealed that the majority believes the minority are abusing the provision of article 112 (3).
Dafeamekpor noted on Joy News that the NDC MPs are preparing to go to court to seek an injunction on the motion to reconvene parliament.
The NPP MPs stated in the letter to Speaker Bagbin that he is bound to recall Parliament in seven days after receiving the letter.
According to the NPP MPs article 112 (3) of the 1992 constitution, states: Notwithstanding any other provision of this article, fifteen per cent of members of parliament may request a meeting of parliament; and shall, within seven days after the receipt of the request, summon parliament”.
“We respectfully request that, upon recall of the House, the following urgent government business be deliberated upon and transacted including any other business that comes before the House” portion of the minority letter read.
