Following the directive issued by President John Mahama, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has revoked the appointments of new teaching and non-teaching staff who were recruited in December.
According to the GES the affected teachers are those who have not yet been placed on the payroll.
This decision, announced in a letter dated Monday, February 17, 2025, is in accordance with a directive from the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah as authorised by the president, which was issued on February 10, 2025.
The directive, which was addressed to all heads of government institutions, stated that all appointments and recruitments made in the public services of Ghana after December 7, 2024, are not in compliance with established good governance practices and principles.
As a result, the GES has been instructed to annul any such appointments or recruitments.
According to the GES letter, all regional and district/municipal/metropolitan directors are expected to ensure that this directive is strictly adhered to.
The letter, signed by Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, Acting Director-General of the GES, also stated that further directives concerning this issue would be communicated as and when necessary.
This development is expected to affect several appointments made in the final days of the previous administration.
The GES has been instructed to submit a comprehensive report on the actions taken to annul the appointments and recruitments to the Office of the Chief of Staff by February 17, 2025.
The report is expected to provide details on the number of appointments and recruitments affected by the directive.
