The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has announced that his running mate for the 2024 presidential elections will be chosen by the party next year.
His comments come in response to persistent calls from some traditional authorities, particularly in Asunafo South, to consider electing their MP, Eric Opoku, to the vice presidential candidate position.
Mahama said selecting a running mate for the 2024 elections is a critical moment for the party to consider because there are established procedures for selecting the right person to improve the NDC’s fortunes.
Speaking at the gathering in the Ahafo Region, Mr. Mahama urged the members of the NDC to remain calm and resolute as the party looks forward to arriving at a good decision.
“What I will say is that, just like custom has it, our party also has processes to select candidates for various roles.” He said
“It is the presidential candidate, national executives, and Council of Elders who come together to select a running mate. But that process will start next year. So keep praying for such a time,” Mr. Mahama stressed.
