Flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama, has promised to revive the state-owned Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) through a joint private-state partnership.

He pledged to revive the inefficient state enterprise if he wins the 2024 general election.

Addressing industry players, the flagbearer stated the process will be transparent and fair to ensure Ghanaians drive the maximum benefit from the refinery.

“We all know the inefficiencies that go with state-owned enterprises. And so we are open to private partnership in terms of bringing that refinery back into operation and running it. But we think that whatever private partnership or private participation is invited, it must come through a transparent process,” Mahama said.

He added with conviction that the debacle of TOR is because it is solely a state-owned enterprise.

“We need to look again at how we can bring the refinery back in place. But I do think that the problem we have with running that refinery is because it is a state-owned enterprise,” Mahama opined.
