Speaking in Sunyani during the 3rd Annual Transformational Dialogue on Small-scale Mining at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), John Mahama said the project is to ensure all affected lands are reclaimed.

“…with the active involvement of young people, this project aims to re-afforest mining areas while creating job opportunities. It will transform re-afforestation into an economically engaging activity, offering a promising avenue for economic development.

According to John Mahama, you will lead the project as a form of employment and contribute to sustaining the environment for future generations.

“The youth will oversee the growth of economically viable tree crops, contributing to environmental conservation and economic growth,” Mahama stated.

Also, Mahama said he will implement a Blue Water Initiative to cleanse water bodies polluted by ‘galamsey’.

“In addition, a Blue Water Initiative will be implemented in partnership with the Water Resources Commission, Ghana Water Company, and our development partners to clean the impacted water bodies in mining areas.”

He said cleaning the water bodies is essential for sustainable and responsible mining. Mahama expressed hope that the two initiatives will heal the environment from the hurt of illegal mining.

“This initiative is a crucial step towards sustainable and responsible mining practices. I am confident it will positively change the environment and the local communities. Together, we can make a difference for future generations” he concluded.
