President John Dramani Mahama has removed Anne Sansa Daly from the Board of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) with immediate effect. He has appointed Prof. Dr. (Med) Ernest Yorke as her replacement.
A letter signed by Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, dated May 23, 2025, confirmed the change. It directed the relevant authorities to facilitate the swearing-in of Prof. Yorke without delay.
“Kindly take the necessary steps to facilitate the swearing-in of Prof. Dr. (Med) Ernest Yorke accordingly,” the letter stated.
While the reason for Daly’s dismissal was not officially stated, recent concerns have surfaced about her credentials. Reports suggest she may not hold a valid medical license to practice in Ghana.
Prof. Yorke is a seasoned medical doctor and former Greater Accra Regional Chair of the Ghana Medical Association. Many in the health sector view him as a strong and credible choice for the NHIA board role.
His appointment is expected to strengthen the board’s leadership and reinforce public trust in the Authority’s oversight.
