Ghanaian rapper Lyrical Joe has opened up about his disappointment after missing out on the Best Rap Performance award at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).
Speaking on Dabreak Hitz with DJ Slim and Doreen Avio, the artist shared how much work and stress went into creating his 10-minute rap track, 5th August.
“Yeah, I was disappointed this year,” he admitted. “Last year’s 5th August caused me a lot of stress and took a lot of effort. Slim, you know it’s not easy to shoot a 10-minute hip-hop video and keep it top-notch.”
Lyrical Joe revealed that he and his fans actively campaign whenever he’s nominated for the Rap Performance category. “My fans won’t let people sleep online, they always want us to win the Best Rap Performance,” he said.
Despite the outcome, Lyrical Joe opted not to voice his dissatisfaction publicly. “There’s no clean way to complain. It ends up looking like you don’t like the other artists who won,” he added.
The award ultimately went to Kwaku Smoke for his track Holy Ghost. Other contenders included Manual by Eno Barony, No Competition by Okyeame Kwame, Brag by Sarkodie, and King is Back by Flowking Stone.
Lyrical Joe previously won the category in 2022 with 5th August 8 track.
