The founder of Danquah Institute, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has rallied behind Black Stars coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor and the players following backlashes from the public over its recent uninspiring performances.

An enormous number of the populace have called for the former Ghana captain, Akonnor to be dismissed after the Black Stars lost to South Africa in the World Cup qualifiers and were dreary in their opening win against lowly-placed Ethiopia.

He has also come under intense critique with many Ghanaians declaring his player call-ups and tactics as the cause of the Black Stars’ unimpressive display.

The Legal practitioner in a tweet to throw its weight behind coach Akonnor and the players indicated that all is not lost in Ghana’s 2022 World Cup bid, hence deserves the citizens’ support.

“I don’t see the panic for the Black Stars. Losing to South Africa in SA with a return match in hand is by no means a disaster,”

Adding, “We are in good shape with our 2022 destiny pretty firmly in our own hands. Let’s back CK & our men on the field & charge them to work for team & country.”

The staunch member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) backing Akonnor is essentially regarded as the decision of the government since most of his thoughts are fully supported by the government.

With the government paying wages of coaches, it would have influence over the decision to appoint and fire a coach.

Monday’s 1-0 defeat as a result of the team’s scrappy display in Johannesburg has seen Ghana drop to second in Group G, one point behind South Africa with four matches to go.

One point is not much but people doubt if C.K Akonnor can inspire the players to be on top and qualify for the final round where the winners of the play-off ties would represent Africa in Qatar next year.

Defeats in those two away matches will all but end Ghana’s hopes of qualifying for the global tournament as the Black Stars are already on the backfoot in the qualifiers after just two matches in Group G.

Black Stars returns to action in a doubleheader against Zimbabwe by playing home and away matches next month to obtain a place at the 2022 World Cup.

Only the A-J winners in each group will be able to progress to the final round for Qatar 2022 qualification.

The five remaining African nations will face off in a draw to determine the winners.

The 2022 World Cup tournament, which will be held in the Middle East for the first time, is scheduled to take place between November 21 and December 18, 2022.
